The Devil & The Universe - Benedicere (2015)

Band: The Devil & The Universe
Album title: Benedicere
Release date: 8 December 2015
Label: Rustblade Records

The Devil & The Universe have evolved into spheres where only absolute darkness is the limit and their musical output is hard to describe, they call it goat wave, but in truth you'll find here dark/ritual ambient, symphonic music, psychedelia, minimal wave, cold wave, xy wave, industrial parts and yet much more, everything composed in a way that it feels just like listening to a perfect soundtrack that could fit fine to any kind of 70s occult horror movie. Benedicere is an occult drama, an adventure, a refined and accurate ritualistic experience, magick and mayhem, order and chaos, a dark cinematic murky masterpiece.

Band: Sweet Ermengarde
Album title: Ex Oblivione
Release date: 11 March 2016
Label: Équinoxe Records

Everything you ever searched in gothic rock and even more is right here. Ex Oblivione offers thirteen tracks full of dense atmosphere, melancholy, darkness, strange quite modern compositional twists, hellish power and sublime melodies. Sweet Ermengarde made their songs very dynamic, in some of them, for example in the opener "Ex Oblivione" or in epic mourning etherealism of the cinematic "For Your Bodies Are The Temples Of The Holy Ghost", there are significant dark ambient elements, just to give kind of a creepy feeling. Everything well connected with the overall goth rock sound which expands relentlessy in "Into Oblivion" or in powerful groover "From Beyond (Sleep Is Better Than Prayer)". Lovecraftian lyrics, melancholic but yet rich atmospheric sound are just some of the things that make this release an outstanding one.
