God Body Disconnect - Dredge Portals

Bruce Moallem makes his debut with a highly versatile release, probably the most unexpected so far from Cryo Chamber. Dredge Portals encompasses many different musical styles. While clearly rooted in dark ambient, the use of guitars, a variety of different drones, and a vocalized narrative, push the boundaries of dark ambient to its very limits touching on a post-rock feel reminiscent of artists like This Will Destroy You. Dredge Portals is a deeply personal venture into the depths of the mind, effortlessly dragging the listener along for the ride. LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN

Katatonia - The Fall Of Hearts

The undisputable masters of melancholic rock/metal are back with their tenth studio album, but this time with a little twist. The Fall Of Hearts is an album that is pushing the musical boundaries beyond anything acceptable in metal music. The Fall Of Hearts is also one of those album that should be heard as an entirety, it might be a difficult listen though, but if you are just a bit of a sonic adventurer you might discover many hidden elements that slowly unveil to the devoted listener. Nothing but another masterpiece by Katatonia! LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN

öOoOoOoOoOo - Samen

Samen is dark, sensual, schizophrenic pantomime with several conflicting personality disorders and an inclination towards depravity, hysterical sex and hallucinogenic adventures of ethereal, psychotic abandon. There is never a dull moment on this record and songs will often finish with the listener wanting more... The music has an astonishing range of atmosphere with bubblegum pop catchiness fit for radio play and spots followed by crushing, dark metal sections that are easily on par with many well known metal bands. Sirenia - Dim Days Of Dolor

Dim Days Of Dolor shines because of amazing ambiental soundscapes, this album has Morten Veland written all over it: full of fluid melodies, containing typical groovy and smooth guitar riffs, epic and pompous choirs, grandiose orchestrations, emotional piano insertions, enchanting use of keyboards, beautiful lead female voice, which is momentarily contrasted by Morten's growls or clean vocals by Joakim Naess and mad, avantgardish intermezzos, that hide beneath the songs and give each composition a special feel. Trees Of Eternity - Hour Of The Nightingale

Hour Of The Nightingale is a sweeping testimony how the darkness, all the sadness and all of the beauty the one can endure is transformed into music. It's an intimate sonic journey that needs your devotion, a sombre and yet sweet lullaby for those who can bear the heaviness of the most intricate inner thoughts. It's a testimony of ubiquitous presence of constant loss and oddly enough yet there are rays of the brightest of light that this album holds within its songs and lyrics. LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN

Ugasanie - Border Of Worlds

In a land inhabited by few, where some see a vast nothingness, Ugasanie sees a brilliantly magical world. It is a place where humanity is humbled; where we are no longer safely nestled at the top of the food chain; where temperatures plummet so low that being unprotected in the elements for five minutes could end one’s life right then and there. Border Of Worlds hones in on this remoteness: the disconnect from the modern world. In the frigid north, the gods themselves are the makers and destroyers. LINK / LISTEN

Wrekmeister Harmonies - Light Falls

Wrekmeister Harmonies on the new offering remains fully intact while expressing new realms of atmosphere and emotion. This is a testament to the unique and personal approach applied to JR Robinson's compositions and his versatility as an artist. The album is dark and ugly at times; but there is much beauty to be found within the darkness, just as there is much beauty to be found in sorrow. Light leads to darkness and darkness to light.
