Anathema - The Optimist

This time the absolute masters of atmospheric progressive rock, Anathema, made a very versatile album, with a lot of subtle orchestrations, many gentle yet melancholic piano driven songs, there are many breathtaking guitar crescendos, and above all the most important thing for which every fan of the band is crawing for, The Optimist contains loads of melodies, unexpected twists and profound lyrics that bring shivers down the spine.

Last Leaf Down - Bright Wide Colder

The swiss “shoegazers” Last Leaf Down return with their second album and are delivering an overwhelming soundscape of dark and atmospheric melodies. The production on Bright Wide Colder is gorgeous, the sound quality is amazing and the musical richness is incomparable. The more you listen to this album, the more you discover new details. Last Leaf Down offer us one of the best guitar driven experiences we can find out there.

Paradise Lost - Medusa

Paradise Lost on Medusa offer crushing, tumultuous and quite dynamic doom metal sound. It's murky and atmospheric, sometimes also catchy, bringing forth a strong devastating melancholy implemented in peculiar organic yet cold sound. It's a sound of metallic darkness that explores some of the most sombre themes that this band ever put on the table. Paradise Lost shows to all those thousands of new bands playing doom metal, how masters do it.

Peter Bjärgö – Animus Retinentia

Ritualistic drum beats and an acoustic guitar with melodies that are enough to leave you in tears enter your surrounding, whilst Peter's deep vocals could lull you into a place from your past that you miss or things you wish that would heal. Peter Bjärgö has created his finest solo effort to date, his most personal and beautiful. This album will take you on a ride through grey heavens and some victory over the sadness towards the end.

Ritual Reaper - Necessary Evil

Necessary Evil consists of two EP's, their first one, Plague-Ridden Kingdom, originally released in 2013, now remastered, and the new one The Living Fire. Ritual Reaper are deeply rooted in the occult world, maybe that's the reason why their imagery looks like a black or at least horror metal thing, nevertheless, what they offer is top class occult gothic rock, an intriguing mix of old school gothic stuff, second wave of goth from 90s, and of some gothic rock derivates.

Wolves In The Throne Room - Thrice Woven

Now, a portal into the dreamworld of Wolves In The Throne Room opens again with Thrice Woven. It is a glorious return to the blazing and furious atmospheric black metal that they alone can create! Thrice Woven is significantly more aggressive and traditionally black metal than many of the band's previous albums. The album is full of blackness, full signature riffs, epic tunes, and tales of pagan nature worship that established Wolves In The Throne Room's identity.

Wordclock - Heralds

All the brilliant techniques Wordclock has shown until now have come to an utter climax on Heralds. This album finds itself on the fringes of the dark ambient genre, and yet it couldn’t be more in line with the goals of the genre. It’s the seemingly effortless blending of different elements which makes Heralds praiseworthy. Heralds traverse the boundaries of dark ambient, including but not limited to, dark jazz, neo-classical, ambient and northern European folk.
