France-based gothic, darkwave, with influences from classical and baroque music project Exponentia, was founded in September 2012 by Ludovic Dhenry, a solo artist of many "musical faces"- all dark though. His other projects like Résonance Magnétique, Zauber and Eleventh Fear testify in favour of this. But Exponentia stands out because it "understands orchestral arrangements, and above all, it is really what I am internally", as states Ludovic Dhenry in the interview for The independent voice. Exponentia is a fantasy world, the lyrics tell stories from this world, and "I live in this imaginary world all the time, I prefer it to the real world".
Exponentia's music will be presented in the radio show [Dark] UNKNOWN this Thursday, 21 January at 22.00 (CET) on Terra Relicta Radio.
The American duo Petals And Thorns, coming from Cleveland, Ohio, are an act that shouldn't be missed by any fan of female fronted darkwave/gothic rock. Just recently, on 31st of October, the two released their sophomore full-length album entitled The Maid And The Blacksmith. Six long years after the debut, The Broken Mirror, Petals And Thorns are back with a captivating and mature new album. The Maid And The Blacksmith with its dark, sometimes fragile, ethereal, yet many times danceable, but still strong, pounding and metallic gritty guitars and expansive use of haunting electronics that make a good company to angelic female vocals, is meant to give a good company to dark souls this winter. Petals And Thorns formed in 2009 and is a collaboration between vocalist Mia Petals and multi-instrumentalist/producer Johnny Thorns. Musician Johnny had been working on a project intended for female vocals starting in 2006. He had attempted to work with three different vocalists between 2006-2008, before meeting Mia (via the internet) through a mutual friend; only to then realize they had both known each other earlier in life. Taking some time to get acquainted musically, they didn't release any material publicly, until 2011.
