It will be two weeks tomorrow since Tomaz and I attended the Therion concert at the Revolver Club in Italy. My last experience with Therion live dates in November 2010 (Kino Šiška, Ljubljana, Slovenia), so it was about time to get another one. Albeit a much more modest audience in a much smaller venue, the two-hour Therion performance was once again first class, not that one could expect anything less.
We arrived at the venue before 16.00 [CET] since having an interview scheduled at the time. But we had to wait about 45 minutes for the band to conclude the sound check. Then Therion's manager invited us onto the tour bus, where we met up with Christofer Johnsson and an American opera singer and soprano, Lori Lewis. The interview was one of the longest Terra Relicta's interviews. Well, there was some chatting, also with Lori, who likes winters and mountains. So, welcome to Slovenia, Lori; there are no more real winters here but many mountains.
After the interview, we took a few hours off - for a fine Italian cappuccino and some grocery shopping. And then the Finnish symphonic metal band Satra. I've never heard of it before - well, the band has been only active since 2020 and released its debut full-length, Sand Of Time, about a month ago. I wish I could express some praise, but I can't. While it was okay instrumentally, it limped vocally. But the main "problem" was (at least in my opinion) that the compositions were so mediocre. It might also be because Therion followed, and the gap showed even deeper. But the band managed to establish contact with the audience, who nevertheless seemed to enjoy its performance.
And Therion was fantastic - through all 21 tracks, and despite the virus that infected most of its members. We got to enjoy three tracks from Leviathan ("Tuonela", "Leviathan", and "Eye Of Algol"), two each from Leviathan II ("Litany Of The Fallen" and "Aeon Of Maat"), the recently released Leviathan III ("Ruler Of Tamag" and "Twilight Of The Gods"), Lemuria ("Lemuria" and "Quetzalcoatl"), Secret Of The Runes ("Asgård" and "Ginnungagap"), Vovin ("Birth of Venus Illegitima" and "The Rise Of Sodom And Gomorrah"), Theli ("The Siren Of The Woods" and "To Mega Therion", which was the last performed song), and two covers, "Mon amour, mon ami (Marie Laforêt cover)" and "La Maritza (Sylvie Vartan cover)". And then there were: "Son Of The Staves Of Time", the opening track "The Blood Of Kingu", "Sitra Ahra", and "Morning Star/Black Diamonds".
We left the venue around half past midnight, full of good impressions and with a perfect dose of viruses. Double thank you, Therion! Dear readers, you must be worried sick about my health... Thank you, but don't be; it only took me about five days to get well. Till next report, regards, Jerneja
