Swedish dark alternative metal veterans Outshine have unveiled the cinematic new video for "Emptiness Inside", marking a striking new chapter in the band's ongoing narrative universe. Directed by acclaimed visionary Kenny Boufadene at Studio Meltdown in Uddebo, Sweden, the video stands as a pivotal moment in Outshine's visual storytelling. It forms the third instalment in an interconnected four‑part saga, expanding upon the dark, prophetic themes introduced in their earlier singles. Boufadene — celebrated for his work with Ice Age, Manimal, and We Are The Catalyst — brings a bleak yet arresting aesthetic that perfectly complements the band's signature melancholic atmosphere.
The track appears on the group's latest opus, Truthsayer, released on 26 June through Eclipse Records.
The video's narrative continues the journey of Reverend Boman, an enigmatic figure first introduced during the band's previous album cycle. As a direct continuation of the storylines explored in the promotional clips for "Enough" and "You Are Not Alone", the plot functions as an allegory for contemporary societal fractures. It delves into the profound isolation and psychological strain experienced by ordinary individuals when global powers employ divide‑and‑conquer tactics. According to founding vocalist Jimmy Boman, the visual captures the precise moment when the common man teeters on the brink of absolute madness. By its climax, the futuristic timeline makes clear that awakening is inevitable, urging viewers to join the fold. Outshine emphasise that strength lies in numbers, suggesting that everyone who stands against the current societal division is actively becoming a "Truthsayer".
Outshine's Truthsayer offers something for every rock and metal listener: rich guitar work, haunting keys, a powerful rhythmic backbone, and mesmerising vocals. Musically, the record is wonderfully diverse, its components interlocking to form a vision both dark and distinct, yet ultimately hopeful. Eerie, foreboding keys guide the listener through shadowed corridors, while hypnotic vocal harmonies split into octaves, mirroring contrasting worldviews layered atop one another like fog over cobblestone and sunlight over the sea. Lyrically, the band confront the elite, biased media, and creeping totalitarianism, depicting a world warped by poison as ordinary people are confined to a metaphorical asylum, screaming silently behind soundproof glass. The juxtaposition of these dystopian themes with such a satisfyingly chunky groove creates a compelling tension. Ultimately, Outshine remind us that shadows recede, hell turns to hope, night yields to dawn, and even scorched earth can give rise to a phoenix. Truthsayer is nothing less than a resounding megaphone.
The album comprises nine tracks, including standouts "Enough", "You Are Not Alone", and "Emptiness Inside". The artwork, created by Jimmy Boman, mirrors the record's dark yet hopeful emotional landscape. Link
