Flowers For Bodysnatchers - Fall The Night [EP] (2016)

Band: Flowers For Bodysnatchers
Album title: Fall The Night EP
Release date: 14 November 2016
Label: Self-Released

Flowers For Bodysnatchers has been a consistently active artist over the last decade. Starting out his music career in the duo dark ambient project, The Rosenshoul, Duncan Ritche quickly made a name for himself. By 2012 Duncan was starting to record under his new solo project, Flowers For Bodysnatchers. It didn't take long for Duncan to attract the attention of Cryo Chamber, where he has been residing since his highly acclaimed album, Aokigahara. After the follow up to Aokigahara, Love Like Blood, Duncan decided to try something a little different. Enter the poetry of Nathan Hassell. Flowers For Bodysnatchers obviously took Nathan's poetry seriously. It truly feels like he took every word of the poems into account. There is never a sense of the process being forced. Duncan's music is already a natural fit for this type of poetry, but Duncan made sure to take all aspects into consideration, never cutting corners.

Gnaw Their Tongues - Hymns For The Broken, Swollen And Silent (2016)

Band: Gnaw Their Tongues
Album title: Hymns For The Broken, Swollen And Silent
Release date: 9 December 2016
Label: Consouling Sounds

There are many differing opinions out there as to what constitutes 'dark music', but albums such as the latest release from Gnaw Their Tongues, Hymns For The Broken, Swollen And Silent are unquestionably dark. This album is one of the darkest, most depraved shit-fests. There is no way that only one man; Maurice "Mories" De Jong (also of Aderlating, Cloak Of Altering, De Magia Veterum and others) concocted this madness. Program drums, synths, samples and bass guitar are the main offenders on this album as well as unorthodox song structures with off beat breakdowns and unpredictable drum patterns. There is also an effective use of empty space, dramatic fall aways and dynamic range that make this album stand out compared to other such compositions in the genre that are usually choked up and crammed in mercilessly with no breathing room whatsoever.

Steel Hook Prostheses - Calm Morbidity (2016)

Band: Steel Hook Prostheses
Album title: Calm Morbidity
Release date: 28 October 2016
Label: Malignant Records

Over the last few years, Steel Hook Prostheses has become one of the flagship projects on Malignant Records and continue to set the bar for death industrial music even higher. Steel Hook Prostheses latest album, Calm Morbidity, takes the listener on a journey through filthy torture chambers, decrepit sanitariums, and even into the depths of some psychotic serial killer's mind. Calm Morbidity takes no prisoners, starting off with a bang, the album keeps the tensions high throughout all ten tracks. In short, Calm Morbidity evokes all sorts of vile sensations and negative auras.  Steel Hook Prostheses don't let up on a single track, as the album progresses, we don't go further into the void so much as seeing it from all its various perspectives. There is no need for creating imaginary worlds, Steel Hook Prostheses seem to realize that our real world is horrific enough to suffice as a setting.

King Dude - Sex (2016)

Band: King Dude
Album title: Sex
Release date: 28 October 2016
Label: Ván Records (Europe)/Not Just Religious Music (USA)

A dark haze, that hovers over very intense feelings of fullness and pain. An intriguing mind, above worldly coincidences. Not everyone in his life is capable to achieve this level of omniscience. Since the beginning of his career in the band Book Of Black Earth in mid-2003, he showed that he was not just one more among many. After about three years, TJ Cowgill, the mastermind behind King Dude, actually started his unique project in folk tradition. King Dude uses his bewitched dark folk sound with primal archetypes, to explore the depths of human feelings. His ability to combine influential elements of country, blues, dark folk and traditional hymns with metal beats, creating deeply resonant music, makes the art of King Dude impossible to go unnoticed. From the beginning, the art of King Dude is in constant evolution and change.

Clouds - Departe (2016)

Band: Clouds

Oh you bittersweet melancholy, how sweet is your cold embrace and how strong is your touch when you penetrate our hearts through music with such feeling of sadness. Is this happiness of being sad or just sadness that has taken on lightness, nevertheless, Clouds with their sophomore album will let the one who enters this world of pure emotion pouring through sound breath the atmosphere of sorrow in its purest form. Departe is without any doubt one of those albums that brings that necessary gloom and emotion into doom metal genre. When listening to Clouds is like to lose yourself in a grievous journey through paths of desolation, anguish and despair.
