The Danish female fronted metallers Forever Still released their debut album named Tied Down for Nuclear Blast Records, and it seems that with all of the promotion done, the label is putting a lot of weight on them. After carefully building their fan base since 2013 and after a lot of touring around Europe, they now offer an album with two different sides, on one side the band, regardless of being a newcommer, put a lot of effort into their compositions to not be labeled just as another female fronted "industry products" or "engineered" band. On the other side, even if it's obvious that we deal with some very talented musicians who tried a lot to be as much original as they can their songs still sounds like something that was heard many times before.
You'll find in Forever Still' debut album many similarities with some other big and well established bands in this certain genre, like for example there are elements similar to Lacuna Coil, Nemesea or even Evanescence to name a few. The singer Maja Shining efforlessy wants to be different from others on a musical plane full of copies. She combines something alike Angela Gossow's screams with Cristina Scabbia's singing style, Maja wants more than being just considered as only one more metal female singer in a line, while she easily blends together the female rocking voice with aggressive features coming from her bowels, bellowing therefore. Beside all of this, there is an obvious course of sadness and condemnation present in most of the songs.
Tied Down nicely builds up on some modern metal elements and you'll find that there are some interesting riffs, as a surplus the band integrates some smartly used electronic samples, but most of what is heard in Tied Down has been unfortunately heard many times before. Success or failure will be dictated by the public, since it is indeed a style that by 2016 is already very worn out and stagnant. Tied Down is not really bad at all, but it is also nothing really exceptional. Still I advise to every fan of before mentioned bands and to every lover of female fronted rock and metal music to give this album a careful listen before making any conclusions, it might be an album that will amaze you.
