Finnish symphonic metal veterans Amberian Dawn step boldly into a new chapter. The band has announced their ninth studio album, Temptation’s Gates, set for release on 26 June via Napalm Records, and with it comes a powerful new voice: Swedish‑English singer Nicole Willerton.
Willerton replaces longtime frontwoman Capri, whose departure stems from scheduling conflicts. Band founder and composer Tuomas Seppälä reflects on the amicable split: “We want to sincerely thank Capri for the incredible journey we shared. Over more than ten years, we recorded five albums, toured the world, and lived through so much together. She’ll always remain part of our story.”
But the mood in the Amberian Dawn camp is anything but nostalgic. Seppälä continues: “Nicole brings new life, energy, and inspiration into the band. She’s versatile, dedicated, and her creativity has already shaped the new material.”
The band introduces Willerton with the album’s title track—a fast, orchestral, and fiercely melodic opener that signals Amberian Dawn’s shift toward a more modern, occasionally rougher edge. It’s a decisive step beyond the ABBA‑themed success of Take A Chance – A Metal Tribute To ABBA (2022), proving the band is hungry for evolution.
Seppälä describes the track as “pure intensity and relentless aggression from start to finish... short, fast, and straight in your face.” He notes that the idea dates back to a conversation with late founding member Tommi Kuri, who once urged him to write a song built entirely on unstoppable energy. “This is that song,” he says. “And it fits our new vocalist perfectly.”
Willerton’s lyrical approach draws from inner conflict and Baudelairean decadence: “‘Temptation’s Gates’ is about confronting your true desires—those you can’t ignore. It’s a rebellious liberation, inspired in part by Les Fleurs du mal.”
Musically, Temptation’s Gates sees Amberian Dawn weaving their signature keyboard‑driven grandeur with sharper, guitar‑forward metal. Seppälä describes the writing process as a creative reawakening: “When I started working with Nicole, I felt the same excitement I had when creating our debut. The songs came together fast. Her enthusiasm and dedication were deeply inspiring. It truly feels like the band has been reborn.”
He also reveals a return to his roots as a guitarist, contributing riffs, leads, and even a full solo. For Willerton, the album marks a deeply personal artistic milestone: “Writing these lyrics felt like diving into the subconscious. Each song reflects emotions and moments that surfaced during the album’s creation. The backing vocal arrangements were especially exciting—Amberian Dawn’s rich vocal layers create such a powerful atmosphere. The album spans love, melancholy, fear, and inner struggle, always returning to the idea of embracing one’s true desires.”
With Temptation’s Gates, Amberian Dawn stand poised at the threshold of a revitalised era—heavier, more expressive, and creatively recharged. The gate is open, and they’re stepping through with confidence. Link
