US project Deeper Graves has unveiled the second single, "Over My Shoulder", from the impending third album, Pull Me Toward The Dark, which will be released digitally via Disorder Recordings on 27 February, with physical editions to follow.
The solo project of Jeff Wilson – also of Chrome Waves and Contrition, formerly of Nachtmystium and Wolvhammer, owner of Disorder Recordings, and more – Deeper Graves serves as a deeply personal counterpoint to his work in heavier realms, favouring mood, texture, and introspection over immediacy.
Pull Me Toward The Dark was fully performed, engineered, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Wilson, who also handled its cover art and photography. Fans of Beastmilk, Killing Joke, Joy Division, The Sisters Of Mercy, and similar acts must hear Deeper Graves.
Speaking about the new track, "Over My Shoulder", Wilson reveals: "It's a bit of an oddball for this project. I never really had the intention of ripping a Type O vibe here, but once the 'solo' was laid down, I dug my heels in and went with it... And as inferior as it is to any of the band's material, I hope this subtle tribute proves their legacy will live way beyond all of us".
Existing in the quiet spaces between weight and release – a slow-moving, atmospheric post-punk project shaped by restraint and emotional gravity – Deeper Graves has unfolded as a solitary vision, with Wilson handling every aspect and allowing the project to develop without compromise or external influence. The debut, Open Roads, introduced a sound rooted in reverberant guitars, understated rhythms, and melancholic arcs, while its successor, The Colossal Sleep, expanded that language into darker, more immersive territory – a collection defined by slow tension and pulsing movement. Following the second album's release, the project issued several singles, including covers of The Cure and Portishead, and now prepares to deliver its third full-length.
With Pull Me Toward The Dark, Deeper Graves continues to drift further inward. The album refines the project's core elements – shadowed structures, shoegaze‑inflected textures, and a quiet unease – while exploring new emotional contours. It unfolds patiently, allowing atmosphere to lead and blurring the line between song and soundscape. There is a deliberate sense of space throughout, where absence becomes as meaningful as sound.
Rather than chasing nostalgia, Deeper Graves reinterprets the spirit of post‑punk and gothic rock through a modern, deeply personal lens. Pull Me Toward The Dark stands as both a continuation and a transformation – an album shaped by solitude, reflection, and the slow passage of time, inviting listeners to sit with its weight rather than escape it.
