Progressive black metallers IATT have unveiled their new studio effort, Etheric Realms Of The Night, out now via Black Lion Records, accompanied by a video for the track "To Lie Beneath".
"To Lie Beneath" embraces discomfort and disquiet. IATT craft a haunting soundscape as they delve into the sensation of sleep paralysis, with the track featuring guest musician Jerome Burns, whose dizzying trumpet solo heightens the unease. The striking accompanying video brings the song's themes to life, aligning closely with the overarching concept of the new album.
Within the track, shrill black‑metal vocals cut across an immersive, textural instrumental arrangement. Extreme metal elements intertwine with progressive flourishes, mirroring the tension and fragmented perception associated with sleep paralysis. Symphonic touches from orchestral instruments weave through the discordant layers, while the band's use of harp subtly evokes the immobilisation that defines the experience.
Returning to the album's central theme, the instrumental section in "To Lie Beneath" represents the pull between reality and the dream world. Its ethereal, piano‑led outro — joined by a soft flute accompaniment — is serene yet sombre, introducing the idea of somniphobia, the fear of falling asleep, which becomes the focus of the album's following track.
IATT's cinematic music video for "To Lie Beneath" incorporates imagery of entanglement. The narrative's heroine is bound with rope and blindfolded, her senses restricted as she attempts to navigate woodland under the watchful gaze of cloaked figures. Guided by two companions while something hooded and sinister follows close behind, she stumbles through this warped dreamscape. Once her sight is restored, she encounters objects from "reality" manifesting within the dream realm. The video concludes with her physical form shown firmly in the real world, while her mind drifts elsewhere.
IATT are now preparing to bring Etheric Realms Of The Night to the stage. In support of the new album and its full‑length film, the band have announced a run of live dates spanning the East Coast and into Canada — marking their first performances north of the border.
For this tour, Etheric Realms Of The Night will be performed in its entirety, offering a rare opportunity to experience the full narrative as intended: live, immersive, and unfolding in real time.
The tour also includes several special engagements, among them the official release event for the band's "Draft Away" beer collaboration and the red‑carpet premiere screening of Etheric Realms Of The Night – The Complete Album Film.
