Finnish melancholic and melodic doom/death metal force Marianas Rest have announced the release of their highly anticipated fifth studio album, The Bereaved, set to drop on 16 January 2026, via their new label home, Noble Demon. To mark the occasion, the band has released the first single and haunting music video, "The Colour Of You" - a track that sets the emotional and sonic tone for what may be their most personal and devastating album to date.
"When we started composing 'The Colour Of You' we didn't see it ending up as a love song, but here we are", comments vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa. "Like the whole album, this song deals with personal loss. Sometimes it may be healthier to forget than to cling on to memories no matter how cherished they are".
Guitarist Nico Mänttäri adds: "At first, we had an acoustic demo with some string arrangements that we didn't exactly know what to do with. We went back and forth with a couple of ideas, but it didn't seem to hit the right nerve. Then, when the idea of what the song could be about, it was a light bulb over the head type of a situation, and it took maybe half an hour to get the arrangement sorted".
From the dark shores of the Baltic Sea, Marianas Rest channel the deep melancholy of their homeland. Hailing from the southeastern Finnish town of Kotka, the band formed in 2013 and has since become a powerful force in the world of melancholic death metal.
Their music is heavy and unhurried, blending elements of doom, death, and post-metal into a sound that is both crushing and beautiful. Marianas Rest don't just write songs - they create moods: haunting, immersive, and emotionally devastating. A journey into darkness that, strangely, feels both familiar and comforting. In addition, the band will celebrate the release of the new album by touring Finland and Europe during the winter and spring of 2026 (see the dates below). Link
