Austin‑based darkwave and electronic rock project Mass Minor, led by multi‑instrumentalist Andrew J. Martin, Jr., returns with a brand new single “Nowhere Now”, marking the first official release since signing with Metropolis Records. Known for blending atmospheric synths, driving guitars and a cinematic sense of tension, Mass Minor’s sound draws from post‑punk, synth‑pop and alternative rock while maintaining a distinctly modern edge.
Since the self‑released debut Become Each Other (2020), Mass Minor has steadily built a presence within the dark alternative scene through local radio support, multiple SXSW appearances and performances alongside Twin Tribes, Ultra Sunn, TRAITRS, Vision Video, Urban Heat, Sacred Skin and others. The project’s evolution now enters a new chapter under the Metropolis banner.
“Nowhere Now” opens with pulsating synth‑bass and distorted low‑end guitar before expanding into a soaring, guitar‑driven climax. Martin describes the track as an exploration of identity, self‑deception and the struggle between who we are and who we believe we should become: “This song explores the tension between who we are and who we’ve convinced ourselves we should be. It centres around the recurring lyric ‘What if what we’re fighting for was never really ours to hold?’ and examines transformation and the difficult process of letting go.”
Balancing introspective lyricism with an anthemic sense of release, “Nowhere Now” serves as both a powerful standalone statement and a thematic introduction to Mass Minor’s forthcoming second album, Beyond The Edge Of Reason, scheduled for release in early November. Link
