Finnish atmospheric metal formation Meret have unveiled their first single, "Breath Of The Dying Sun", together with an accompanying music video. The track offers the first glimpse into the band's forthcoming self‑titled debut EP, scheduled for release later in 2026 via Inverse Records. Although a new name, Meret gathers seasoned musicians from the Finnish metal scene, with members previously active in Hanging Garden, Shamrain, Crimfall, and Where's My Bible.
Speaking about the creative process, Toni Hinkkala explains: "The songs are built from the emotions and darkness I carry within me. For me, this music is a way to unravel my inner world and bring to light things that are hard to put into words. The music moves between beauty, melancholy, and dark moods, but there is always light to be found beneath the surface. The songs were born more from emotion than from a plan. Sometimes a single melody or mood opens up a whole world around the song".
Formed in 2025 in Heinola, Meret channels atmospheric metal through a lens of strong melody, melancholy, and the interplay between hope and shadow. The band's compositions emerge from deeply personal emotions — a space that cannot always be articulated verbally, yet resonates clearly through sound.
Meret's sonic identity blends haunting melodies, dark tonalities, and dynamic songwriting, where sensitivity and heaviness coexist. Rather than striving for a polished or calculated finish, the band embraces an approach that is raw, emotional, and honest. Their music often drifts into bleak and desolate territory, yet beneath the surface, there is always a glimmer of light and renewal. This balance between vulnerability and intensity forms the core of Meret's artistic vision.
Meret were born from a simple but powerful need: to create music that feels real. Link
