US dark electro/EBM artist NØIR has released a new EP, Breath And Taxes, on Distortion Productions, featuring remixes from genCAB and Iszoloscope, alongside contributions from collaborators cellist Tracey Di Lascio‑Martinuk, programmer Dominic Smelt, and engineer Xris Smack.

"Breath And Taxes" is a surreally sarcastic, sharply satirical piece exploring the contradictions of cults, capitalism, and commodified belief systems. Its origins trace back to 1993, when it became the first song NØIR vocalist Athan Maroulis co‑wrote as a member of Spahn Ranch.

Curiously, the lyrical idea stems from an even earlier moment: in 1990, while Maroulis was a member of Executive Slacks preparing to perform at Scream in Los Angeles, he visited a serial‑killer art exhibition in Hollywood. Complete with a gift shop, the experience struck him as so absurdly fascinating that he later penned the lyrics inspired by what he witnessed that day.

Breath And Taxes arrives as the latest chapter in NØIR’s evolving catalogue, blending dark electronics, biting commentary, and Maroulis' unmistakable vocal presence. Link
