Canada's darkwave/electro/post-punk hybrid Sexsomnia have released a new single and video, "Subspace". The first new material from the band since last year's Forbidden EP, "Subspace" offers a first glimpse of their forthcoming Raven(ous) EP, expected in early 2027.

Marking a departure from the contrast and interplay between frontman Philip Faith's dark, gravelly vocals and the feminine voices featured throughout the band's previous releases, "Subspace" is Sexsomnia's first single to feature Faith's voice exclusively. His vocals alternate between moments of fragility and a more assertive, almost defiant delivery.

The single was mastered at The Cage Studios by Martin Bowes of pioneering British darkwave and industrial outfit Attrition. Driven by a tribal electronic beat, "Subspace" brings together the band's signature dual bass guitars, their melodic lines weaving through layers of atmospheric synthesisers.

Lyrically, "Subspace" explores a state of complete sensory surrender, where pleasure and bliss offer a seemingly invulnerable refuge from the outside world. Yet beneath this promise of transcendence lies the danger of mistaking temporary escape for reality.

As Philip explains: "'Subspace' is a voyage into the in-between realm of pure, unaltered pleasure, bliss, abandonment and ecstasy; a place where nothing can affect or harm you. But there is a danger in confusing the numbness and perfection of this state with reality. 'Subspace' is the Eden of the senses."

The accompanying video intersperses footage of the live band with surreal, Giger-inspired scenes of otherworldly creatures engaged in a ritual of seduction. Together, these elements capture the "show" at the heart of Sexsomnia's audiovisual aesthetic. Link
