Italian darkwave/post‑punk newcomers The Autumn Aurora present their debut full‑length False Idols, a record that explores introspection, alienation and social disillusionment while confronting the "false idols" of contemporary society. Released via Volcano Records, the album arrives together with a new video for the track "Be My…".

Born from the need to give sonic form to the disillusionment of modern life, The Autumn Aurora craft with False Idols a dark, deep and layered universe rooted in post‑punk and darkwave, yet shaped through a distinctly personal compositional approach. At its core lies a striking dialogue between two bass lines, supported by extensive effects work, synths that shift between sweeping orchestral passages and industrial incursions, and rhythmic structures that often abandon genre conventions in favour of tribal and syncopated patterns.

Across nine tracks, the album forms a cohesive narrative that critically observes contemporary society. The "false idols" referenced in the title include ostentatious success, hyper‑connectivity that ultimately leads to isolation, technological dependency, social façades and the existential emptiness born from the constant search for approval. Interwoven with these themes are more intimate forms of fragility: urban alienation, disorientation, pain and the longing for authenticity. Rather than pursuing nihilism for its own sake, False Idols seeks a form of catharsis through the acceptance of human vulnerability.

One of the album's many facets is represented by "Be My…", a track built around a bass arpeggio that unfolds into distorted chords and suspended atmospheres. Effects, dynamics, melody, orchestral pads and intermittently tribal rhythms drive a crescendo that alternates between rarefied sections and moments of intense impact, culminating in a finale shaped by the contrast between restraint and sonic eruption. Beneath the appearance of a passionate serenade, however, the song explores the darker side of attraction — a feeling that crosses the boundary of love and gradually turns into obsession. Desire becomes control, dependency and the conviction of being the only one capable of loving the object of that desire. An extreme devotion that can become a curse, regardless of whether the relationship ever truly begins or eventually ends.

With False Idols, The Autumn Aurora mark the first chapter of their discography: a compact, cinematic work that uses darkness not merely as an aesthetic language, but as a lens through which to observe and dissect the contradictions, obsessions and fragilities of the present. Link
