Uruguayan dark metal duo Upon Shadows has presented a new track, "The Son". The single is inspired by their compatriot, writer Horacio Quiroga, paying homage to the sombre legacy of the author, whose work has shaped the band's artistic path from an early age.
In the band's words: "'The Son' is our humble tribute to an author whose work has been an endless source of inspiration for those of us who dwell in the shadows".
Musically, this release sees the debut of theremin arrangements recorded by Natalia, alongside her characteristic bass, adding an ethereal and unsettling layer that reinforces the emotional weight of the piece. The single also features a contribution from guitarist Pablo Hansen, a long-time friend of the group. His presence results in a denser and more consistent sound: "Instead of recording several takes of my guitar, as I usually do to make the sound thicker, this time Pablo also recorded, and the result of both guitars together is a denser and more consistent tone", explains Tamara.
"The Son" underscores Upon Shadows' commitment to merging intensity, introspection, and literary sensibility within the sphere of female dark metal. Link
