Trieste (Italy) based music cast My Mannequin was formed in spring 2012 by Michele Gorini (bass), Gian Battista Ossi (drums) and Lorenzo Saija (guitar), who already had the chance to work together back in 2009. The trio started creating music influenced by gothic metal bands like Paradise Lost and Sentenced, and some rock bands, especially The 69 Eyes.
The line-up completed by Nora Biondi (ex-Chaosphere) on keyboards and JV Metterling on vocals joining the group. In 2016, Lorenzo had to part ways with the band due to personal reasons, just shortly after My Mannequin's first music release, an EP As Daylight Deceives..., in March 2016. There were subsequent line-up changes concerning the guitarists, so the band's debut full-length Jewels Of Misery, freshly released on 26 March 2021, features the work of two session axemen: Luigi Pressacco and Luca Pipolo.
Weaving nightly gothic rock melodies,
My Mannequin slowly moved from a hard(er) style (although always darkwave-worshipping, due to the vocals and keys) to a more the early 80s, bass-driven sound, but never leaving the bite of guitars behind.
My Mannequin's subject is a mannequin - of dualistic importance "mannequin/model" - reflected by the lyrics, pictures and imagination. As for lyrics for
As Daylight Deceives... EP being conceptual, a broader vision emerged with
Jewels Of Misery, which tries to embrace versatile aspects of mankind, using modalities of expression such as horror and contemplation.
