Abbath - Abbath (2016)

Band: Abbath
Album title: Abbath
Release date: 22 January 2016
Label: Season Of Mist

Immortal is back, in a new shape and with a new name, hailing under the name of the previous frontman of Immortal, Abbath Doom Occulta. The album feels like a journey back to the old glory days of Immortal, it reminds to classic albums like At The Heart Of Winter and Sons Of Northern Darkness. Melodic and fast tunes go perfect along with the bombastic music. The famous Immortal sound is certainly there in the fingers of Abbath's guitar playing. The guitar sound is warm and fuzzy, the songs feel alive and very powerful. They are like a journey into the mountains.

God Body Disconnect - Dredge Portals (2016)

Band: God Body Disconnect
Album title: Dredge Portals
Release date: 12 January 2016
Label: Cryo Chamber

Bruce Moallem makes his debut with a highly versatile release, probably the most unexpected so far from Cryo Chamber. Dredge Portals encompasses many different musical styles. While clearly rooted in dark ambient the use of guitars, a variety of different drones, and a vocalized narrative, push the boundaries of dark ambient to its very limits touching on a post-rock feel reminiscent of artists like This Will Destroy You. While we have heard vocals in previous releases from Cryo Chamber, this is the first time that an artist vocalizes a real recurring narrative throughout the album. Dredge Portals is one of the most cinematic releases yet from Cryo Chamber, and the most successful use of narration so far in a dark ambient release from any label.

The Human Voice - Silent Heart (2016)

Band: The Human Voice
Album title: Silent Heart
Release date: 21 January 2016
Label: Cyclic Law

Silent Heart is a deep and moving experience from beginning to end. Never becoming overwhelming yet always holding onto the listener emotionally, it dives deep into our psyches and tears at what makes us human, what makes us feel. Silent Heart was years in the making and Harleif Langas proves yet again that the best things take time and patience to create. Silent Heart is arguably one of Langas' best albums to date, and probably the most emotionally gripping of all. While Northaunt often gives one the feeling of being in the midst of a dark and desolate landscape, The Human Voice manages to manipulate the mind itself, pulling us through deeply melancholic and personal passages, reflecting the dark waters of a tortured soul.

Mist Of Dead End, who were formed back in 2013 by Benjamin Marmier (Mils, Wäks, Chokhmah), are toying with several sounds, from post-rock, metal, industrial, gothic, cold wave and yet much more. On Never Explain Anything you'll find six tracks with a total timing around 25 minutes and those are minutes that you won't even know when will pass. The band managed to create such a captivating, highly turbulent and dynamic sound. Never Explain Anything is a combination of modernity and classic rock/metal, in its essence is a very dark unit of adventurous and multifarious songs.

Nocturne - Nocturne (2016)

Band: Nocturne
Album title: Nocturne
Release date: 15 January 2015
Label: Unlight Productions

Nocturne's first album offers nine songs where strong epic impacts with varied melodic lines are supported by gloomy atmospheric keyboards and fine vocals in background. Music has many different characters, but the main thing is very dark and extremely dynamic sound of all instruments. Vocals show two different sides, one evil and the other one friendly - in short, excellent! Keyboards are definitely the biggest complement to the sound and upgrade the beauty of melodic guitar passages. The addictive atmosphere all over helps you to forget the physical world that surrounds you.
