On Friday, 18 November, Orto bar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) was a scene of "unusual" performances: acoustic (well, the tour title makes this clear already), but yeah, acoustic gigs are not very often in the metal scene, and there is probably a reason why, but I don't know it. Could it be that it's not easy for someone playing power music to get acoustically tender and risk ruining everything? ;) I don't know about Sonata Arctica since I don't listen to power metal and haven't attended any of its gigs before this one. The audience, though, seemed to appreciate the acoustic Sonata Arctica; we - on the other hand - only listened to two tracks since the interview with Eleine took a little longer. Besides, perhaps most of the audience came to see/hear Finnish power metal masters - as also Eleine publicly speculated - Tomaz and I came for Eleine since it is dark music of Terra Relicta's interest.
Eleine started as scheduled - at 20.00 [CET] - with "Enemies" and continued with "Whisper My Child", "Memoriam", "Hell Moon (We Shall Never Die)", "Ava Of Death", "All Shall Burn". "Death Incarnate" was the last played track of the Acoustic In Hell EP, and only "Break Take Live" was left out. I enjoyed the acoustic Eleine - less aggressive, more oriental-ish, but still powerful. And Madeleine and Rikard do know how to engage the audience, even with the singing contest.
About half an hour after Eleine's gig, Tomaz and I met up with Madeleine, Rikard and Jesper for the interview, which contents will be revealed when the time comes (yeah, we have plenty of interviews waiting to be published, starting with Amorphis conducted months ago). The interview was much fun - most of the credit goes to Rikard... and Tomaz, who didn't forget to mention it was his birthday. Knowing him, he was hoping for some gifts. ;) And he got two - a Dancing In Hell T-shirt and chocolate. And I must have looked sad since I got a gift too - an Eleine bracelet. Eleine then started packing to embark on the long road to Bulgaria, where this "symbiotic acoustic adventure" continued. Thank you again, Madeleine, Rikard and Jesper, for the gifts and friendly atmosphere!
With best regards till the next gig report - most likely Heilung on 5 December at L56 in Ljubljana! Apparently no gig on my soon-to-be birthday... No gig and no gifts... :(
