BEYOND THE GHOST - First Album In Europa Series Out Tomorrow, Two Tracks Available For Streaming

French dark ambient project Beyond The Ghost will release tomorrow (26th January) via Cryo Chamber his first album in the Europa series entitled The Last Resort. Expect futuristic, bleak and moving sound voyage that merges electronics and acoustics. Beyond The Ghost is the dark ambient project of French musician Pierre Laplace. Laplace was the leader of experimental rock band Vera Clouzot for ten years, he then self-released two acoustic solo albums as Kenyon, and he is currently half of the atmospheric folk duo The Sandman’s Orchestra, for whom he has written and produced three albums of original songs, as well as a reinterpretation of Kate Bush’s conceptual B-side, The Ninth Wave.

In all three musical projects, although they were song-oriented, Laplace experimented a lot with textures and atmospheres, so that the transition to dark ambient music was natural. With Beyond The Ghost, Laplace has honed a sound that’s dreamy and atmospheric, but with some sense of tension and drama too. Beyond The Ghost uses a mix of soft and hardware synths, live instruments (guitar, piano, percussion …) and field recordings.

About the thematics of the new album The Last Resort: Berlin, the year is 2060. The whole of Europe is fraught with sickness and poverty and tensions are arising between the remaining populations.  Resources are low, war is imminent. The streets are cold and lonely.  The shining sun has become a notion of the distant past. Every day feels darker than the next. The people who are left stay locked inside, fearing for their lives. There is nothing left to do but wait out the inevitable doom. An old club called 'The Last Resort' is one of the only places that are still open. There, a few brave and lonely souls gather together to drink the night away to the woeful tunes of the house band. Between sets, a broken alert system in the streets can still be heard, blasting out remnants of news that don't make sense anymore, like echoes of foreign voices lost in transmission. Against all odds, a few letters of the club's neon light still flicker on and off, illuminating the patrons' faces, their expressions hanging heavy with loss and pain. Few words are exchanged, and yet their devout presence during such times makes us wonder:  will they accept their defeat or will they fight for a better future? But for now, they are only focused on making it safely home after the last call, their heads hung low, their feet shuffling through the darkness, humming to the sounds they just heard, to mourn the loss of one more day during these sorrowful and suspended times.

This music is highly recommended for fans of noir, melancholy and molotov cocktails. Two of the tracks are now available for streaming and you can hear "Opiated Dreams" and "The Darkness Before My Eyes" in the player below. Link
