Hailing from The New Haven Area (USA), the gothic/grunge/hard rock band Residual Self has signed a record deal with Sliptrick Records. Residual Self is led by the mysterious Rex, and what started as a solo project in 2016 has taken an unexpected shape of its own. Friends and fellow musicians began to rally behind him; most notably Joshua "Squirrel" Spaulding on guitar and David "The Animal" Sasso on drums. Together, with his allies, they have begun to craft something dark, sinister, heavy and aggressive, yet obscure and ambient. A darker more gothic twist on the grunge era of the 90s has arisen. The world has changed and evolved into something Rex perceives as surrounded by sex, greed and more sin. Residual Self feel that the music of this era should reflect the shadow realms that we know exist.
The band utilizes scything guitars, booming effects, thunderous claps of the low-end bass and drums, while their leader Rex grunts, growls, howls, and snarls his way through their apocalyptic journeys. Accompanied by their themes of demons, lust and power, Rex aims to bring forth the "residual self" in us all. Their stark sounds and sombre lyrics are designed to awaken the true primal nature and strike one's soul at its very core, unveiling who you truly are.
