Finnish multi-instrumentalist and composer Eeli Helin is about to release on the 12th of June a cavernous and vibrant experimental ambient/drone debut album with an industrial fix, The Lurks. Eeli Helin's prior musical treks vary from grindcore to jazz, from post-rock to noise, and so on and so forth. Besides being a musician, Helin is also a visual artist with an emphasis on dark/noir photography and mixed media. Having collaborated with numerous like-minded artists and personnel on all of the mentioned fields within the past few years, in late 2020 he decided to lock himself down mentally, in addition to the physical constraints already in place throughout the planet due to we all know what, and direct all of his focus to a singular entity uniting these different orientations, and The Lurks is the result of exactly that.
Spanning four lengthy, over twenty-minute tracks on two discs, The Lurks is first and foremost a journey into the psyche of both its performer and its listener. Channelling a multitude of emotions and tonal hues, the entity dictated by strong vision is open to any interpretations made by its discoverer while stemming from a place of solitude and bearing a lucid, albeit unspoken, narrative throughout its entire duration. The Lurks can be indulged either as a whole or in parts, if you surrender yourself to its confines and keep an open mind for the feelings it'll inflict upon you and the mental state it'll push you to, whether profound relief, deepest sorrow, all-encompassing warmth or callous disquietude. These are merely examples but shine some light on the persona of this holistic effort awaiting to be experienced by any and all music enthusiasts, aficionados, and regular listeners alike. The entire album is available for streaming and you should take some time and give it a spin. Link
