Los Angeles (USA) based dark trip-hop singer/songwriter Shexist has partnered with Chilean producer The Psychodelics Trips on the new single "Jove". The single is a downtempo trip-hop deep cut reminiscent of the mid-90s. Equal parts dark and dreamy, "Jove" has the magnitude of Massive Attack combined with a thoughtful callback to Mazzy Star and Portishead.
Shexist experienced frequent lucid dreams while pregnant in 2021. One dream, in particular, was so profound, it was conceived out of the dreamscape and escaped into waking life. "Jove" is the experience of a cycle of life and birth coinciding with the transition of the planet Jupiter.
Since the early 2000s, Shexist has been a mainstay of the Los Angeles Underground. She developed a style all her own while recording and or performing with pioneers of trip-hop, techno, darkwave, lo-fi, and conscious hip-hop. The Psychodelics Trips mix different genres between dark trip-hop, industrial, psychedelic, alternative with tribal percussions, the drums and percussions are the principal instrument mixing with dark and psychedelic synths. Some influences came from old bands of trip-hop such as Massive Attack and Tricky and old classic sounds from psychological horror games. Link
