Canadian modern goth project Double Eyelid is back with a new single, the first since Hallowe'en 2021 cover of AC/DC's serial killer homage "Night Prowler". The new song, "Leaving These Stones Unturned", is a slow-burning gothic ballad about the personal ambiguities and doubts that inevitably must stay buried in the past.
The cover art is an easter egg for long-time fans, as it's a still from the band's first music video, made for the signature tune, "Dead Is Better". Singer Ian Revell (as the video's Victorian-era gravedigger character) has his back to the camera, shovelling over his shoulder and walking away after a job well done. So- what's the link between the two tracks?
Double Eyelid comments: "There's a thematic link between the lyrics of the two songs in that burial's the central metaphor. It's digging in the dirt, digging in the past, digging in the psyche. In the context of this song, the image of myself as this character with a shovel - and walking away - hit me as a very powerful one".
Recent images on the band's socials show that Revell has been reviving the "Dead Is Better" gravedigger character for what he describes as a "high effort lyric video" slated for release later this month.
