Six years after the release of its epic Across Corpses Grey, English blackened pagan metal outfit The Wolves Of Avalon returns with its fourth album Y Gododdin, set for release on 25 November via Godreah Records in digital format and stunning, limited edition black/white splatter vinyl, adorned in the dramatic artwork of Kurt Miller.
Once more, The Wolves Of Avalon invites you to walk with it through the pages of Britain's history - to immerse yourself in the lost legends of this ancient island. This time we head north to the kingdom of Gododdin, to ride with the three hundred warriors of king Mynyddawg Mwynfawr against the Angle invaders; to see their swords gleam in the morning sun as they charge against insurmountable odds, riding from that field of blood and death into the pages of poems and the songs of bards, where their bravery lives on forever.
Since the band was formed back in 2009 by vocalist and lyricist Metatron (The Meads Of Asphodel) and songwriter James Marinos, The Wolves Of Avalon has forged a unique path, redefining the boundaries of folk and pagan metal, unearthing tales from the past too often forgotten and working with the world's finest folk musicians and some of metal's most individual and rebellious talents. Y Gododdin continues this tradition of collaboration, with Tony 'Demolition Man' Dolan (Venom Inc), Thurios (Drudkh), Hoest (Taake), Wulfstan (Forefather) and Nico Millar (Aklash) all adding their powerful presence to the album. The five songs that tell the tale of Y Gododdin are all incredible songs in their own right, and together they form something truly breathtaking – an album that encompasses the senses and fires the imagination, painting vivid images across the canvas of the mind and transporting the listener to a time out of time. "Through The Murdering Night", "Men Of Gododdin", "The Shining Company", "Dead Men's Cloaks" and the magnificent, climactic "Is This How It's Meant To Be" are songs that will haunt you with their rich, melancholic magic as they blend the timeless storytelling of folk with the evocative power of metal.
