SNØGG - To Release Fourth Full-Length

Slovenian experimental black metal duo Snøgg presents its fourth full-length (eighth release), Meltdown, which breaks down the elements of all the previous seven offerings and collages them into six new tracks, each incorporating the features of every release from the past. Meltdown will get released on 18 November via Terraformer Research Facilities on cassette and digitally.

Crawled out of Velenje in 2013, Snøgg encapsulates a never-ending journey through abstract creative ideas. The Slovenian group's self-categorized "Freeride Black Metal" integrates various dark, extreme, and unusual sonic elements. Lyrically, Ulv and Mørke lean into the realm of mysticism, unnatural and divine, as the previous releases delved into Slavic, Hindu, Greenlandic, and Mayan mythologies and even portrayed Ashla, Bogan, and Bendu (the belief system of force users in Star Wars), except the last album, Dan, ko je Vrag vzel šalo (released earlier this year). Focusing on the battle between the devil and Slovenian sailor Krjavel, this album recreated the old Slovenian novel Deseti brat.

Snøgg's aesthetic live shows and records frequently include guest members who partake in experimentation and improvisation on stage and in the studio. Their knack for presenting something unpredictable, unprecedented, and unhackneyed is not only apparent in their live shows but also on their records as the band reaches into different terrains of dark music every time they get down to writing new music, turning each record quite different from any of the previous offerings. They have played more than a total of 70 local and international concerts. The enigmatic Snøgg sets it a tradition to embark on an Eastern European tour to support the studio releases, be it a demo, EP, or full-length.

The new album, Meltdown, contains six remixes made strictly of the material of all seven previous Snøgg releases. As the name suggests, all the albums were melted down and collaged together into new entities, so a bit of every album can be traced in every track. No new sounds were added to the mix. While some parts sound almost the same as the originals, cacophony and pure noise hold sway in the darkest corners of the album. The song titles emanate from the six areas of the Earth that are mostly covered with snow and are slowly but surely melting away due to human ignorance and incapability to maintain the world as a safe place to live. Wondering what will happen when all the snow and ice melt away? Snøgg's Meltdown futuristically and precisely captures that dystopian state.

Remixes were made by Ulv's personal project s0n667, which focuses on multi-genre collages and was launched during the covid pandemic with the audio-video series Messages from the Void containing eight episodes released in May and June 2020 on YouTube. s0n667 also performed some online shows in the past two years.

An album release show will take place on 19 November at Klub eMCe plac in Velenje.
