The USA-based post-doom quartet Fauns has released the first single, "Ashen", from its upcoming sophomore EP, Surcease, due out independently next month.
The band comments: "'Ashen' paints a dystopian vision of inevitability: Our world in orbit smoldering with the absurdity of its religions, the atrocities of its nations, the ignorance of its past, and the repudiation of its sciences... for eternity".
Formed in 2018 from the remnants of disbanded projects, Fauns offers a grievous blend of down-tuned riffs and virulent growls enveloped in a sea of the dense atmosphere. With lyrics expressing deep disgust and utter disappointment in humanity, the quartet explores themes related to the human condition, the ways of man, and his inability to change course.
The band recently wrapped up the recording of Surcease with James Whitten (Thou, Eyehategod, Faustian) and is readying to release the cyclopean two-track EP on 5 May independently via Auricular Acrimony. Link
