Swedish death-doom metal institution Suffer Yourself has unleashed the first track, "Axis Despair", from its forthcoming fourth full-length Axis Of Tortures, coming out via Aesthetic Death on 22 September.
Axis Of Tortures is based on a concept and representation of perceived tortures as a four-dimensional geometrical graph, where there is three real coordinate axis (Insanity, Despair and Pain) and one assumed - Time (the fourth dimension, as we know it). Thinking about it from the pure geometrical and metaphysical point - any point in the 3D space can be anywhere in the coordinates and have any values, for example, (0,0,0) - is the very centre of all planes whilst moving away from the central fulcrum, brings any combination of the three variables mentioned above and subsequently different amounts of each torture within the axis. We all exist somewhere within the spectrum of tortures.
The cover art for the album is a piece by Austrian surrealist painter Otto Rapp. The artist himself approved using his work, "Eye of the Dark Star" (1993), to adorn the album cover, which brilliantly reflects the musical vision.
