Canadian atmospheric black metal project Boréalys will release its debut full-length, L'héritage, on 1 September through Northern Silence Productions on CD and digitally.
Around 2015, Abstrus (formerly of Brumes) gave birth to the initial guitar riffs, which would eventually shape the EP Là où les eaux se séparent (released under labels Winter Sky/Les Fleurs du Mal/Non Posse Mori). In 2018, Julius (from Black Empire) joined the project as the drummer, followed by K. (from Wendess) for bass and mix/mastering. In 2020, K. left the band, and Abstrus took over bass duties for the L'héritage full-length solidifying Boréalys as a duo.
Solely in the French language, Boréalys is deeply entrenched in its history, weaving tales and legends of its terroir. Within a defined atmosphere, the band conjures memories and customs of the past, reflecting the struggles and endeavours of their ancestors who settled the land. This ambience also evokes a sense of freedom emanating from the boundless forests and the numerous rivers that fortify their identity. As a homage to their native tongue and Francophone roots, Boréalys remains an exclusively French project.
With a weighty and melancholic atmosphere, Boréalys draws inspiration from the Scandinavian black metal scene of the 90s and the likes of bands such as Drudkh and Abyssic Hate.
