Sweeden-based cinematic/symphonic metal outfit Nocean stands out with its unique approach - creating cinematic teasers for its single releases, animated stories for its performances, programming its light shows, and utilising AI tools, such as for single cover artwork. And, the band predominantly tours theatres.
In October 2021, Nocean released its third album, Aurora: The Weight of A Shadow, followed by a successful theatre tour across Sweden. Currently, they are crafting new music and working towards a new album. Only recently, the band has shared a new single, "Break Of Spell," accompanied by a self-produced music video.
Lead singer and video producer Hanna Olsson explains: "We want to pique curiosity about our music and build an immersive fictional world around it, offering more than just a musical experience".
Nocean's third album delved into a gothic fictional universe, focusing on themes of grief and catharsis. Band members assumed the roles of characters within this narrative. Their upcoming music will continue to explore the fates of these characters in the city of Erville. Guitarist Oscar Björk, who portrays the character Jaxon Vasperion, shares: "The song 'Break Of Spell' tells the story of a magician attempting to break an eternal curse he's ensnared in".
The band has created the cover art for "Break Of Spell" using an AI application, with guitarist Daniel Nyqvist contributing the concept and Hanna adding the finishing touches. Hanna Olsson states: "We are a band that embraces modern technology and we are open to experimentation. We don't rely solely on AI, but we gladly use it as a tool to achieve our creative objectives".
