The mysterious Italian black metallers VIII will release their sophomore full-lenght entitled Decathexis on 26th June via Third I Rex Records. Decathexis is an amazing journey through stages of decay. Merging black metal and groovier doomy parts with jazzy and ambient/industrial soundscapes, the band has created something really unique and highly impressive that could be at first place interesting to fans of bands like are Deathspell Omega, Khold and late Manes.
The band was born in 2011 under the name of Division Hate, the band released a first demo in 2012. After changing name into VIII (the contraction of the word eight, sounding like hate), a few years later in 2014, the band released its first full-length album, Drakon, through Metallic Media & Black Plague Records. Although no much of promotion was made in occasion of the first LP, the band's name isn't new to who deeply lurks in the black metal underground scene.
Now, after years from the actual recordings of their first opus, the band is back with a new astonishing record, something fresh which marks a deep evolution in VIII's sound. Mesmerizing and intense, Decathexis is going to mark a brand new era for the Italian band. Decathexis is the regression stage in which the patient detaches from reality by losing interest in everything. This what the band says about the new work and concept behind it: "Terminally ill, eroded by an existence condemned from birth as the son of a gangrenous uterus. The protagonist in this concept album suddenly awakes in a decadent reality. Creeping maggots and ruins' dust mark the passing of time like grains in an hourglass. Feeding in decomposition and walking slowly a path towards the void, the protagonist craves for freedom and true liberation." More album details and pre-listens of the tracks will be available in the coming weeks.
Like compendium of humanity, VIII channel in a unique experience the high thoughts of philosophers and authors such as Nietzche, Cioran, Caraco and Bataille and explain: "As metastasis devouring every cell of a dying organism, we found in nihilism "the noose" to hang ourselves, releasing the true Self from rottenness." Album features three tracks clocking in around 50 minutes. Decathexis is available for pre-orders at this location. Tracklist and cover artwork are below.
