Band: Atrium Carceri
Album title: Archives I-II
Release date: 22 March 2016
Label: Cryo Chamber
The dark ambient powerhouse Atrium Carceri is back with something a little different this time around. Archives I-II looks back on the last ten years of the Atrium Carceri project. Simon Heath chose his favorite lost gems and gave them all a makeover by way of re-editing, mixing, and mastering into two long tracks totaling almost an hour and a half. Archives I-II is the first long form album by Atrium Carceri, Simon has used two long tracks, almost a full album length each. Archives I-II has everything that an Atrium Carceri fan could possibly hope to hear. Within these two tracks are many of the hallmarks of the dark ambient and specifically Atrium Carceri sound. While considering this for review I listened quietly with headphones, as well as on the metro, also with larger speakers while gaming, while going to sleep, and while reading. Archives I-II was the perfect companion in each instance. The production value and creative talents are pouring out of this release and I promise it will not get old any time soon.

Band: Merciful Nuns
Album title: Thelema VIII
Release date: 4 March 2016
Label: Solar Lodge
Merciful Nuns were always masters in creating huge vibrant atmospheres, as well we were used to hear that in many of Garden Of Delight albums, especially in the second era of the band, classics like Apocryphal I: The Fallen and Apocryphal II: The Faithful, come in mind at first place. But in Thelema VIII there's kind of a dark ambient vibe implemented in the background, and at this place the pioneers of the genre Lustmord come in mind. The new offering of Merciful Nuns is nothing but a masterpiece. Not so many times an album with its unrelenting pathos has the power to make even your heart and even the bones tremble. Thelema VIII is a sonic journey through radiant dimensions of mind, into all things occult, it's some kind of a cinematic dark goth/ambient/rock adventure with a constant dreary presence that awakens the inner dark thoughts of the listener, yet is full of emotion and it holds a seductive character needed to fully embrace darkness and light of higher truth behind this concept.

There's one band coming from Sweden named Ereb Altor, who is carrying the legacy of Bathory like no other. Now Ereb Altor comes with a new offering named Blot - Ilt - Taut (which is old Swedish and means nothing less than Blood - Fire - Death), and yes, it's a tribute to their main influence and inspiration - Bathory. Featuring seven legendary cult hymns, released by Bathory in the period between 1984 until 1991. This tribute album is without any doubt a golden commemoration to one of the biggest names of metal music, and a superb piece of music for each and every fan of heavy metal out there, no matter into which genre or subgenre are you into. Even if you've been listening to those songs thousand times before, you'll find in Ereb Altor's interpretations enough freshness and completely new dimension of sound added that it will for sure bring back that special zeal, so often missed within the modern production, to all those who were at some point embraced by Bathory's immortal classics.

Band: Alphaxone
Album title: Echoes From Outer Silence
Release date: 23 February 2016
Label: Cryo Chamber
Now back with his fourth solo release on Cryo Chamber, Alphaxone continues to improve upon his style and impress his fans with dark spacy soundscapes to awaken the spirit. Alphaxone has made a noticeable progression between each album in honing his combination of subtlety with harsher tones. All of the elements of his previous albums which worked so well individually seems to have been brought together here perfectly. Echoes From Outer Silence brings a brilliant balance between the showcasing of lifeforms and a spacey desolation. There are all the elements present to leave the listener visualizing all sorts of fantastical realms and ideas while never loosening its grip on musical aesthetics. Echoes From Outer Silence is a brilliant album by Alphaxone. Turn out the lights crank the stereo and open your third-eye to the infinite expanses of our universe.

Band: Todtgelichter
Album title: Rooms
Release date: 26 February 2016
Label: Supreme Chaos Records
While they stick loyal to their formula of a minimalistic cover artwork and "one word" album title, music is far away from that, it has so many different elements, constant changes from one mood into another, it's multi layered, rich, yet melodic and atmospheric, with quite a lot of melancholy and almost theatrical grips. From track to track you'll be feeling just like walking from one room into another. Todtgelichter with this album are on a mission to take the throne of avantgarde metal. Great complex guitar riffing and solos, amazing drumming, strong bass lines and devilish screams combined with quite emotive clean vocals are without any doubt worth all the respect even from the most demanding type of listeners. Rooms is one of the most elaborated albums this band did so far, it's dark enough, it embraces with kind of shifts between coldness and warmth.
