About Fading came out like from nowhere and already released their debut self-titled EP. We can talk even of an "all stars" band or project here, as About Fading members come from renowned bands like Todtgelichter, Kratein, Kerbenok, Aeba, BlackSunFlowers and other German acts. The most noticeable is presence of Marta J. Braun from Todtgelichter beign the main vocalist. This EP contains three songs with around twenty minutes of music and as the bands name suggests their musical output is very melancholic and atmospheric.

First of all I must expose great vocal performance of Marta J. Braun and those of you who enjoyed her momentum in Todtgelichter, this is the release for you. About Fading perform kind of post-rock, with elements of shoegaze, trip-hop, with occasional avantgarde moments and some gothic metal heaviness, everything sorrounded with huge amount of atmospheric lines and splendid melodies. I can't forget to mention beautiful guitar job, whether be acoustic or heavier, great melodic riffs and rare leads are top notch, despite the fact that most of the time seem to be very simple and mellow. Also bass lines and drumming are perfect, sometimes very playful, but never too exaggerated. The tempo is often slow to mid-paced. It's interesting that the band doesn't use any keyboards and still amazes with great ambiances and extremely smooth and flowing compositions.

About Fading created three songs that must captivate you with amazing atmosphere, mostly because of emotional Martas vocals that never looses the charm and leads the listener through this melancholic, yet very catchy journey. Her way of singing takes the listener with ease from one mood into another and adds a lot of dynamics into the sole song structure. Some melodies and rhytms flirt with pop elements from early 90's and each song has the structure that builds slowly on the atmosphere until reaching its mesmerizing peak. While listening to About Fading, bands like The Gathering, Shamrain, Anathema, Antimatter, of course last work from Todtgelichter, maybe a touch of The Cranberries, most gentle and melancholic later Katatonia and other similar acts come in mind, so the factor of originality is not high, but it doesn't matter here. Production is just about right, I can't say nothing bad about it. And if I return to Marta and her vocal performance on this release and on last album of Todtgelichter is sure that she's becoming one of the best female singers coming from Germany (and not only) performing emotionaly driven melancholic rock music.
