"Out of Space, Out of time". An hypnotic female voice repeats these litany words, surrounded by charming acheronian choirs and a peaceful sound of waves backwards. So begins the second chapter of the Merciful Nuns distinctive Clavicula Salomonis interpretation: Goetia V. The band's fifth album reveals a different context comparing it with its predecessor. However there is a subtle connection between both soundscapes, these are more contemplative and mystical... almost sacred. The most transcendental part of the journey which the Germans propose in their spiritual saga. An album conceptually conceived as a unique song. An only experience that begins ("Dark Water" + "The Lake" + "Wailing Wall") and ends ("Resting Under Deep Dark Water") with water, where the warm melodies success each other in a coherent way across a super structure. Far away atmospheres, bass commanding lines, delicate accords, perturbing programming, and the expressive vocals of Artaud spinning every element, waving between desperation and melancholy. The chronic of the definitive crossing towards Light, narrated by Seth (as a sort of Watcher) in "Ark Of The Covenant" + "Moving Through Still Times" + "The Maelstrom" + "Astral Light" and embodied in a water goddess (some ancient cultures such as the Babylonian one claimed their civilization as coming from these beings) that seems just to leave Humanity to its fate, in the middle of an overwhelming sadness: "and she mourns alone at the wailing wall, and she walked away for ever more, and she went away into another... sphere". The musical parenthesis mentioned before which surrounds this astonishing mystical journey has its graphic reflection in the album booklet. The first image shows us an ambiguous silhouette (in terms of sex and humanity) which is going into the dark waters of a lake. The last one represents the same scene but the mysterious character has disappeared...
Goetia V is intense, atavistic, deep and evocative. This album provides a private and unique experience to each listener. It's a spiritual redemption for the tormented souls: "...It's a sentimental journey into the heart of all mourning...".
