Are you ready to have some fun? If the answer is yes, then please, by all means join me on the road trip through 10 tracks that represent the land called PussyPussyBangBang. The German quartet consisting of young, enthusiastic and talented chaps Sid on vocals and guitar, Hol2y on the second guitar, Mike behind drums and Marple 8 on the bass guitar have gathered under the name The Pussybats and are taking a whole new, fresh, a bit strange and at the same time intensely interesting approach to their music. Their debut Famous Last Words saw the light of the day in 2009, but the band didn’t rest up until now, as their songs have been featured on many different compilations. The band also perfumed numerous live shows, alongside the famous names such as Deathstars, The 69 Eyes, Subway To Sally and Jesus On Exstasy.
Compositionally and atmospherically the band’s second full length harmonizes elements of vintage sounding rock, spiced with goth’n’roll and pure goth rock, while carrying out a special, highly contagious groove. In the essence you will feel the album carries the famous "sex, drugs and rock and roll" vibe, but while the majority of the songs will kick right in with their energy and upbeat melodies, there are some unexpected, but pleasant, slightly darker twists that seal the deal. The opening "Red Nose On" will blow your mind with its raw punk fervency, bringing out the catchy rock guitar riffs and aggressive drumming, accompanied by some screams and shouts. "My Name Is Pain" and "Subversive" follow this path and thus create a great, party-mode and the "I don’t give a flying f#$%" feel, but The Pussybats have a whole other side to show. With "4 A Revolution" the band touched the delicate topic of the current events in Ukraine, showing, it’s not only fun and party what they’re all about. To show a softer side, the album presents its fair share of typically goth rock influenced, slow-paced song, such as "Full Moon" and "Sidney Fears", holding great amount of pensive and thought-provoking ambient. "Scary Fairy" then is an example of The Pussybats combining the goth driven sound with the layers of indie rock, while "And Other Day In Hell" is carrying a heavy post-punk spirit. On the album you will also have the pleasure of listening to Leandra Ophelia Dax, the current live musician of Apoptygma Berzerk on piano and backing vocals. You will hear her impeccable work standing out especially on the album’s closing chapter, the serene and intense ballad "Clownsome".
Sometimes simplicity of sounds pays off for sure and PussyPussyBangBang is the proof of that. This album surely deserves some attention, especially from audience who enjoys some old school sounding garage rock and is not afraid of some bouncing between different music styles. Listening to this album will give you a feeling you’re on a rollercoaster drive; at the moments you will enjoy in the panoramic view that will overwhelm you from head to toe and at other times it will make you scream, because your bloodstream will be flushed with adrenaline. It’s a perfect album to put on, while driving off to the sunset, not knowing, what the night is about to bring.
