I was always looking forward to Darkspace’s new efforts when the time was about to add yet another nocturnal child to their discography. Well it’s been 2 years since their Dark Space – I EP and about 6 years since their previous full-length, the magnificent Dark Space III. So, the timing for Dark Space III I was more than right to come to the surface. Wroth, Zorgh and Zhaaral once again pledge allegiance to unconscious coordinates and chaos is reborn. You could refer to it as black metal from the astral plains.
"Dark 4.18" opens the gates with lurking sounds of inexplicable horror inside unfathomable depths. It feels like the birth of a circular nightmare when the sonorous and threatening guitar melody emerges and the riff, like fire at will in a parallel battlefield,on the background scratches like nails the core of your soul; and then the faceless assault of the highest order of horrors breaks in. Mechanical vibes and a wall of transcendent sound that explodes and expands without beginning and without end. Abhorrent to a saint’s ears, exquisitely beauteous to others. The echoing chanting grants appear every now and then, malevolent and elegant at the same time. Darkening, grandiose, imposing, imponderable, ever-expanding, that’s how it sounds because that’s how it should. You have to adore the way ideas come and go in circles, like the circular guitar leads that float like maelstroms that devour everything and the sound you receive is just a mere echo of once-existence. The minimal synthesizers add another astral sense of mystery to the overall effort, the fuming effects darken the soundscape even more and the programming of beats n’ drums holds everything tightly.
"Dark 4.19" processes with a divine eloquence, the electronics dance macabre on the background or just float as they accompany the slicing guitars that forge cracks upon the map of space and time to tranquilize for a while in the vast sea of stars until the majestic journey amidst dreadful yet elegant sounds starts anew, in an orbiting manner, hell, it feels like a satellite’s course! The distant breaths at the end of the composition makes it feel like relieving moments of an immense threat that just passed by; just to fill in the void with more discomfort after the first minute of "Dark 4.20", exploding like cosmic sperm in the vaginal universe just to impregnate the uncertain. And as it progresses it feels like entrancing transmissions from forgotten realms. No remorse, no mercy, just a sense of sympathy by the time it reaches the end simply because you have to survive so as to cherish their next attempt in the near (I hope) or far (even then it’s fine) future.
Darkspace never disappointed me and even this time they couldn’t achieve this. On the contrary, with every release they expand their sound corridors into something more massive and diligently absurd. Dark Space III I is the sound equivalent of an astral projection, close your eyes and let it elevate you; downwards.
