The Flatfield is a gothic/post punk band from Helsinki, Finland. The band was formed in the autumn of 2011 by vocalist Vile Gray and guitarist Dr.J.Ravine. Soon after that, bassist Juha, drummer Jaska and some years later the synth player Risto Juntunen joined the band to complete the line-up. Their acclaimed debut album Passionless was released in 2014 by collaboration between Passionless Records and Gothic Music Records. With a minimalistic and oppressive sound The Flatfield become one of the most promising acts in the current gothic/post punk scene. The atmospheric keyboards together with the creaking guitars create their characteristic sound, a really interesting approach that evolves from the typical 80s post-punk sound providing a personal soundscape with reminiscences of different dark styles like gothic rock, death rock and darkwave.

With Manie Sans Délire they went one step further, adding new elements to their sound, reaching a more mature level. Vile Gray’s voice add new registers creating a more dynamic experience. The guitar work is awesome with amazing solos and riffs closer to the death rock style so well interpreted by mythical bands like Mephisto Walz, Madre del Vizio, Christian Death (Rozz Williams period) or Stone 588. The album is absolutely brilliant, twelve songs with dark hymns like “Trail”, a mid-tempo song with a captivating atmosphere and an impressive guitar work. “With me”, another hit, this one is more oriented to the death rock sound. “Grey City” is another excellent song, well driven by the keyboards. To finish the review I’d like to highlight one of the most epic songs I’ve heard lately, “Her Fornication”, which is a powerful tune with convincing drums and cool guitars. Without any doubt Manie Sans Délire will be one of the ten best albums released in 2017, consolidating The Flatfield as one of the best outfits in the current dark scene. Don’t miss the opportunity to get one of the 333 copies published, you’ll be amazed with this work.
