Avantgarde black metal masters Misanthropic Rage brought us their sophomore album named Igne Natura Renovatur Integra. Already the band's debut album, Gates No Longer Shut, was very well received and it featured different textures and styles allied to the good old black metal. Those who have not yet had the opportunity to be introduced to this band are missing a lot. Misanthropic Rage came out in 2015 and is formed by main composer, guitarist, backing vocalist and programmer AR (ArthWork, Obsolence), and vocalist, bassist, programmer W (Obsolence).
Igne Natura Renovatur Integra ("All Nature is Renewed by Fire") is a controversial black metal skull smash that pleasantly melts furious riffs with unique touches of epic guitars, fantastic crescendos, many solos and very varied and well mixed progressive elements, everything spiced up with well inserted electronic samples. The album sounds more developed than its predecessor and we are presented to nine tracks and 52 minutes of drizzling enigmatic material. No monotony or boring repetitions in here, everything is also completed with insane lyrics about the creation and purgation of souls. Igne Natura Renovatur Integra shows in a very professional way that this two guys have been working incessantly on this material to present all of their creative potential.
This is an obscure, but technically demanding album full of atmosphere and already the opener, "Call All Your Angels", in the beginning is making kind of ritualistic ambiance before it blows out your brain with a howling tortured vocals. The melody is maintained all the time when the band increases the heaviness of the song. Then there are a lot of slow and reflective moments in "Bliźni Mój", the only track with lyrics in Polish language. Most of the time they are keeping the pace fast and heavy, with dense instrumentation, powerful rhythms, aggression, varied vocal approaches, from typical blackened shrieks, deep growls, to clean vocals. The tracks are beyond anger, but yet there are several moments of gentle melancholy allowing the listener to take some breath, for example in "Abstrakt", "I.N.R.I." or especially in the closing one "The Thruth Shall Be Told".
I liked the album a lot and the tracks that I enjoyed the most are, "Call All Your Angels", "Bliźni Mój", "The Hammer And The Nails", "In Embrace Of Sanity" and the last track "The Thruth Shall Be Told". I would also like to mention the obscure album cover artwork created by Maciej Kamuda, a true work of art that visually captured the atmosphere of this cold and aggressive, and most of all truly compelling avantgarde black metal. Igne Natura Renovatur Integra represents everything that avantgarde black metal is about, but there are several other elements from different genres used in here, like for example some death, thrash, progressive, ambient and industrial metal as well. The band is in a peculiar and lush way presenting something that could be considered as a new way for black metal. And this Polish duo really stands out from the vanguardist ranks with this album.
