It is notorious that Djevelkult comes from the depths of hell bringing in his luggage all the savagery of Norway's unmistakable black metal through their violent and debauched music. In fact, also the artist Jose Gabriel Sabogal, responsible for the cover artwork of the album, which is of course the first thing you'll see, visually translated what will penetrate your brain once you'll then start to listen to this hellish music.

With their music Djevelkult intend to attack not only the human race that has turned into cattle but their god. This band was formed in 2009 by Dødsherre Xarim and the formation back then was very different from the current one. Things didn't went very well between the members that year. In 2010, drummer Ond of Liktjern joined the leader and in 2011 the demo Skapt av Helvetesild was released. In 2014 they released their first album, I Djevelens Tegn (In the devil's sign). Unfortunately Ond needed to leave the band and a new drummer joined the horde and made several live presentations with the band. Many gigs and festivals appearances followed later, and then during 2014 and 2015 Djevelkult began to pave the new album.

So, on 25th May, Når Avgrunnen Åpnes, will be released by the hands of Dødsherre Xarim, Skabb, Ond (yes he returned!) and Beleth via Saturnal Records. Når Avgrunnen Åpnes is an album that consists of eight short tracks, the longest one is about six minutes and something like that. What you will find on this album is a savagery controlled by instruments and well translated by insane vocals with tortured howls and debauched grunts that are put well into the mix. The guitar riffs are quite cold and why not say, dirty, the drums are quite fierce and do not disappear in the fog.

This second album of the band counts with the collaboration of some buddies as, Draug of Kirkebrann that sang and wrote the lyrics of "Vredeskvad"; Invisius of Blodhemn that played the drums, sang and wrote the lyrics of "An Evil Unheard Of";  Ånneland that played the second solo on "Apocalypse (Hellspawn)"; and Kleven that plays additional guitar on "En Ny Tid".

Particularly it is an interesting and very faithful album to the second wave of black metal, it doesn't bring anything new to be truthful, but certainly it is a pleasant one if you like that segment of black metal. The first track of the album, "Atomic Holocaust", is my favorite and I confess I had it on repeat for quite some time, such was my attraction. If I were to consider only originality and not passion and fidelity, I would not give it a good rate, but that is not the case, since Djevelkult has always been very clear about what they really want to do.

This is an album and a band with roots well carved into the 90s. If I could give the band some advice it would be: please, longer tunes and more passionate solo riffs without losing the icy atmosphere. But nevertheless, this is a very good piece of black work that deserves attention from black metal hordes, so congrats to the band!
