UK‑based synth‑pop/dark electro outfit 404 Error have released a brand‑new video for “Through His Lens”, one of the most unsettling and serious tracks from their recently issued sophomore album Genre Reveal Party, released on 13 February. The single arrives accompanied by the Shutter Speed Remix, offering a sharper, more urgent reinterpretation of the song.
Hailing from Northern England, 404 Error operates as a semi‑anonymous project led by the artist known only as 36663. Their debut album, Scene Killers, earned positive acclaim for its tongue‑in‑cheek tribute to the goth scene, wrapped in infectious synth‑pop hooks. With the Genre Reveal Party, the project steps into far more mature and deliberate territory, exploring darker themes with refined craftsmanship.
“'Through His Lens' is one of the more serious tracks on the album,” explains 36663. “There was the idea to do a song about creeps. But when the ideas started to flow, doing something tongue‑in‑cheek wasn’t going to cut it. It had to be stark. Although the lyrics and video tell the story of a photographer, make no mistake about it… photographers, filmmakers, DJs, promoters, musicians, fetish event organisers — there are those who hide in plain sight.”
He continues: “The main tell, of course, is that they’re not explicit. If someone they work with never says ‘no’, they don’t need to push boundaries. And the more people who have a positive experience, the less likely victims are to be believed. With the album track and video being cold and chilling, we wanted a remix that was more uptempo. The mix is also a nod towards an upcoming remix album coming in the summer.”
"Through His Lens" stands as one of 404 Error’s most direct confrontations with real‑world darkness — now amplified through its stark visuals and the new remix’s heightened pulse. Link
