Salem (USA)‑based avant-garde industrial force Satanic Planet will release their new album Dead Deities on 30 October via Relapse Records, marking the band’s most focused and incendiary statement to date. What began as a collaborative experiment has now become a fully formed studio entity — a pitch‑black, aggressive call‑to‑arms against autocracy and rising Christian nationalism.
The group — Lucien Greaves (The Satanic Temple), Luke Henshaw (Planet B), Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Misfits, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross) and Justin Pearson (The Locust, Deaf Club) — channel their collective experience into a sound that is both confrontational and purpose‑driven. Greaves notes that the album’s themes align even more closely with the mission of The Satanic Temple, which advocates empathy, rejects tyranny, and confronts injustice through art and activism.
Dead Deities is a descent into modern dark music: tolling bells, blackened synth, diabolical noise passages, and drums that hit with tectonic force. Its first single, “Sam Alito’s Mom,” is a venomous strike aimed at the arch‑conservative Supreme Court Justice whose work helped overturn Roe v. Wade. Greaves and Pearson twist their vocals around each other in a slow, crushing spiral of rage and resistance — a sound forged from decades of underground experimentation, from Slayer’s ferocity to Planet B’s avant‑garde electronics.
Greaves explains: “In an effort to preserve reproductive rights in the face of theocratic opposition, The Satanic Temple has opened three abortion clinics and is working toward a fourth. We named the first ‘Sam Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic,’ and after opening the fourth, we will sue to establish our religious freedom to ship abortion pharmaceuticals to any state regardless of restrictions. This is our fight, and this is our song about that fight.”
In an era of regression and weaponised authority, Satanic Planet deliver protest music with teeth — furious, unflinching, and committed to shaping a more humane world. Dead Deities is flag‑burning, cross‑toppling industrial annihilation with a purpose.
