Finnish symphonic metal veterans Amberian Dawn have released “Unchained”, the third single from their forthcoming album Temptation’s Gates, due out on 26 June via Napalm Records. The track marks a significant moment in the band’s evolution, serving as the first major showcase for new vocalist Nicole Willerton — and the results are striking.
“Unchained” reveals just how dramatically Amberian Dawn’s sound has expanded with Willerton at the helm. Her performance moves effortlessly between seraphic clean vocals and powerful, full‑bodied growls — a first in the band’s history — pushing their symphonic foundation into bolder, more dynamic territory. It is a statement of intent: Amberian Dawn are stepping forward without hesitation, and in doing so, they are truly unchained.
Composer and keyboardist Tuomas Seppälä reflects on the creative process: “It was exciting to start writing a song built around a true, traditional guitar riff. Over the years, I haven’t focused much on that classic riff‑driven approach — but this time, it felt exactly right. The main riff came together quickly and naturally, and the rest of the song fell into place around it. The track is very dynamic and challenged our vocalist on multiple levels. She handled it brilliantly. This could easily have become a much longer song, but I wanted to keep it focused and tight. And of course, it demanded a world‑class guitar solo — which Emil delivered with complete confidence.”
Willerton adds her own perspective on the song’s emotional core: “‘Unchained’ is about breaking free from inner pain — the struggle of feeling trapped by fear and judgment. It challenges the instinct to tear others down out of insecurity and reminds us that we’re all human. It’s about finding freedom and letting go of our demons.”
