Germany's atmospheric black metal outfit Antrisch have set 27 March as the release date for their sophomore album, Expedition III: Renitenzpfad, out on AOP Records. The band have also unleashed the first single/lyric video, "Conquista", from the upcoming album.
Antrisch (Austro-Bavarian term for eerie or uncanny) are a blend of different styles of black metal mingled with portions of doom, djent, and dark ambient. Lyrically, Antrisch explore the inner world that is the wide range of expressions bred by the human mind and inner life, as well as the outer world by treating substantially the vast landscapes and forces of nature experienced through bygone ventures to the world's most extreme sceneries. This project is a musical & lyrical expedition to the heights of the world and the depths of man.
Founded in 2020, the emotional experiences associated with that year, such as isolation, exposure, and hopeless helplessness, became deeply ingrained in Antrisch's DNA. While their debut EP, 2021's Expedition I: Dissonanzgrat, was still a semi-fictional mountain drama made up of set pieces from various historical expeditions, Antrisch's follow-up work, 2023's full-length Expedition II: Die Passage, told the complete, coherent story of Sir John Franklin's dramatic Arctic expedition.
In their third expedition, Antrisch venture further back than ever before into the dark aspects of human history: Expedition III: Renitenzpfad follows in the footsteps of the conquistador Lope de Aguirre. His participation in Pedro de Ursúa's Amazon expedition in 1560 and its calamitous outcome form the backdrop to the album.
Through seven dark stages, Antrisch draw listeners into a story of madness, violence, and excess in the midst of a hostile environment, weaving a depressing and captivating soundscape of poignant, aggressive, emotional black metal riffs, atmospheric ambient parts, and narrative passages into a dense, captivating atmosphere. Expedition III: Renitenzpfad once again celebrates the fusion of atmospheric, melodic black metal and narrative density into an intense sound experience and a lyrical journey down into the abyss of the human soul. It doesn't take a devil to make God's absence tangible. Link
