German solo artist Azketem has unveiled the final track, "Riven Astray", ahead of the release of his new full-length, Amid, due on 12 December via Darkness Shall Rise Productions.
Amid, the third album from the Berlin-based project, continues the stylistic thread of previous releases while marking a distinctly new chapter. True to tradition, mastermind Azken has christened the record with a single word beginning with "a", yet the music itself demonstrates his ongoing drive to craft melancholic, densely atmospheric metal. While the bleak ambience across the six tracks remains intact, the methods of evocation differ significantly from earlier efforts.
Most strikingly, the album incorporates elements reminiscent of Type O Negative, Katatonia, and Fields Of The Nephilim. Despite occasional black metal riffing, bursts of double-bass, and sparse, harsh vocals, Amid drifts further from black metal than its predecessor. Rather than adhering to genre boundaries, Azken confidently draws upon whatever serves his creative vision, resulting in a bold work that resists categorisation.
Amid will resonate with fans of atmospheric black metal and gothic rock alike, while appealing to anyone drawn to immersive, melancholic soundscapes. The previously unveiled "End It All", alongside more information, is available HERE. Link
