Copenhagen (Denmark)-based dream pop duo BlackieBlueBird is back with a fourth album, A Symphony Of Shadows. This latest release, which is out now via a collaboration between T&E Records and Aenaos Records, presents a fresh take on their beloved old songs, weaving together delicate torch songs with an innovative twist.
Comprised of the enchanting singer Heidi Lindahl and the masterful composer Nils Lassen, BlackieBlueBird creates an ethereal soundscape filled with reverb, echo, and haunting beauty. Their music captivates listeners with echoing guitars, plaintive harmonicas, wistful mandolins, and a choir of lonely mermaids that sporadically embrace Heidi’s golden voice. Her unique and clear vibrato brings to life the echoes of love and longing, hello and deceptive farewell, in a profoundly melancholic way.
BlackieBlueBird's previous albums, Ghost River (2018), Goodbye In July (2020), and Grace And Gravity (2023), received rave reviews worldwide, with comparisons drawn to the haunting melodies of Nick Cave’s Murder Ballads and the ethereal soundscapes of Enya. Now, with A Symphony Of Shadows, the duo reimagines their signature dreamy romanticism by adding drums and orchestral elements to highlights from their back catalogue, all while maintaining the poignant melancholy of their earlier works.
Inspired by the overwhelming international reception of their last album, this new release casts familiar favourites in a refreshing new light and shade. Led by the tender and enchanting voice of Heidi Lindahl, A Symphony Of Shadows features ten songs about longing, love, life, and loss, penned by the experienced composer Nils Lassen. The album also showcases the talents of renowned Danish drummer Tomas Ortved (Sort Sol), Japanese pianist Tashi Mutzaki, and skilled arranger Lazlo Singer, who complements the soundscapes with delicate string arrangements. The entire album is available for streaming. Link
