Corlyx continue their streak of guitar‑driven singles rooted in 80s and 90s goth subculture with “Your Heart In The Serpent’s Mouth” — a dream‑pop‑meets‑doom‑gothic‑rock piece that slows the tempo without sacrificing the band’s bite. It marks a shift into hazier, more atmospheric territory, contrasting sharply with the raw, politically charged energy of their recent single “More Anarchy.”
“We are exploring all the beautiful colours of this time period,” says vocalist Caitlin Stokes. “Gothic rock is at the core, but there was so much happening around the subculture back then — and right now there isn’t much representation for rock genres in the scene. One of the advantages of having a full band line‑up is that we can dive into these sounds.” Stokes cites a long‑standing love of Cocteau Twins as a reference point, calling the track “quite experimental even for us,” and admits the band initially hesitated to release a slower‑tempo song as a single — “but really anything goes at this point, and I love it so much.”
Guitarist and producer Brandon Ashley shaped the track’s shimmering guitar textures around that dream‑pop brief. “Caitlin asked for super dreamy guitars, and I obliged,” he explains. “I’ve spent a long time developing my own tones, so we don’t necessarily sound like Cocteau Twins — but they were certainly an inspiration.”
Lyrically, “Your Heart In The Serpent’s Mouth” carries what Stokes describes as a dual meaning: the inevitability of pain in a cruel world, and the risk inherent in offering your heart to someone else. “Your heart in the serpent’s mouth — fragile and delicate, always in danger of being eaten alive, or worse,” she says. “It’s a tale of trust and vulnerability, accepting the fates of love and the fears that come with it.”
“Your Heart In The Serpent’s Mouth” stands as the third single from Corlyx’s forthcoming album, scheduled for release in early 2027 via Out Of Line Music — another step in a creative evolution that continues to expand the band’s sonic palette while keeping their gothic spirit intact. Link
