Portuguese gothic metal veterans Heavenwood return today with a new and evocative single, “The Moon”, offering the first sonic glimpse into their forthcoming album The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II, due for worldwide release later this year via Mighty Music.
A deeply atmospheric and symbol‑laden composition, “The Moon” draws inspiration from the esoteric writings of Gérard Encausse — better known as Papus — whose influential study of the Tarot continues to shape the conceptual backbone of Heavenwood’s latest work. Centred on the eighteenth card of the Major Arcana, the track explores the descent of spirit into matter and the dual nature of Love, expressed through the eternal interplay between the Sun and the Moon.
Sombre, immersive, and rich with emotional nuance, “The Moon” unfolds gradually, weaving melancholic textures into a swelling, cathartic climax that stands among the band’s most evocative compositions to date.
Reflecting on the piece, Ricardo Dias dos Santos explains: “This piece — and my musical interpretation of the study and concept developed by the occultist Papus — is an analogy for the process of materializing a series of personal experiences, lived from within my own microcosm and charged with profound dualities which, in the eyes of the outside world, are constantly presented to us in a dogmatic way. In this case, Love and the metaphorical relationship between the Sun and the Moon.”
“The Moon” also sets the thematic and sonic tone for The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II, an album recorded in Portugal and later mixed and mastered in France by Niko HK Krauss. The result elevates Heavenwood’s signature blend of gothic melancholy and metallic force, promising a release that expands their expressive range while remaining true to their unmistakable identity.
