Canadian artist Kee Avil – the experimental, post‑punk, avant‑pop electronic project of Vicky Mettler – has revealed the first track, "itch", from her upcoming album Vapor. Rather than releasing a traditional album, Kee Avil is collaborating with NNA Tapes on an ambitious year‑long experiment: Vapor will unfold one track at a time, released gradually over the course of 2026.

Crucially, this is not simply an album composed of standalone singles – it is Mettler writing, recording, and releasing the work in real time, in strict chronological order. The approach feels like a response to the public‑diaristic modes that have emerged alongside the Internet and digital social communication.

Mettler explains: "Creative inspiration is often like vapor, appearing and dissipating quickly. This album represents what inspires me in the moment. Vapor is a deconstructed album that I'll be releasing song-by-song throughout 2026, a sort of sonic diary. Creative inspiration is often like vapor, appearing and dissipating quickly. This album represents what inspires me in the moment; it's my attempt at capturing fleeting moments of creativity and finishing them quickly while they're still fresh and breathing. For me, it's a way to let go and make music without thinking too far ahead. Once a song is finished, I move on. I don't try to link the songs: each tells its own story. My hope is that at the end, a natural cohesion appears, a concept reflecting a frozen moment in time, a process from start to finish."

Kee Avil released her debut album Crease in March 2022 via Constellation Records. It received widespread critical acclaim, including a place among Bandcamp's Best Albums of 2022. Her follow‑up, Spine, was met with even greater praise, earning accolades from The Wire, Line of Best Fit, Der Spiegel (Album of the Week), The Quietus, Outside Noise, and Bandcamp's coveted Album of the Day, where Kee Avil's work was described as "a whispered secret of grave importance".
